TECO Energy President and Chief Operating Officer

John B. Ramil is President and Chief Operating Officer of TECO Energy, a $3 billion diversified energy company. In this role, he is responsible for the operations and performance of the corporation's operating companies, which include:
· Tampa Electric Company - A $1.8 billion integrated electric utility serving 630,000 customers in West Central Florida;
· Peoples Gas System - Florida's largest natural gas distribution company with 300,000 customers and over $400 million in revenue;
· TECO Coal - A producer of nine million tons of coal per year with annual sales of $440 million;
· TECO Transport - A $260 million integrated bulk cargo water transportation business operating barges on the Mississippi River and its tributaries, a terminal facility near New Orleans and a fleet of ocean-going vessels sailing around the globe, and
· TECO Guatemala - An electric power generating and distribution business serving a significant portion of the energy demand in Guatemala, with $400 million in assets and over $200 million in revenue.
Prior to assuming his present position, he had been President of Tampa Electric Company. Ramil has also served as Vice President-Finance and Chief Financial Officer for TECO Energy. He has held a variety of executive and management positions in engineering, operations, marketing, customer service and environmental throughout TECO Energy.
He joined Tampa Electric in March, 1976, as a cooperative education student while attending the University of South Florida, where he received is B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and has attended advanced studies programs at the University of Georgia and the Wharton School of Business.
In 2001, he was appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush to the charter Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida. He is immediate past Chair of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves on the boards of the Florida Chamber, Enterprise Florida and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
He has been involved in several youth activities including coaching in soccer and baseball, and is a past chair of the American Heart Association-Tampa Bay Heart Walk, INROADS Tampa Bay, the Southeastern Electric Exchange and the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group. He also served on the board for the Tampa Bay Partnership, and in 2004 was recognized by the Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc., as Hispanic Man of the Year.
He is married to Naida Perez Ramil, and has a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, Christopher.
