Thomas G. Kuntz is president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, Florida. With more than 426 offices from Pensacola to Miami, SunTrust provides a full array of retail and commercial services as well as trust and investment services.
Kuntz has been in banking for more than 25 years. He is a career SunTrust banker, beginning his banking career with SunBank in Orlando in 1978 as a management associate and later working in the International Division where he was responsible for the bank's activities in Europe. In 1990, he was promoted to senior vice president managing the International, National/Large Corporate, Florida Corporate and Institutional and Governmental Banking divisions.
In 1993, Kuntz relocated to SunTrust Bank, Tampa Bay, as senior executive vice president, responsible for the management of the bank's branches, all lending, private banking, and the commercial and residential real estate divisions. In 1995, Kuntz was promoted to president and chief operating officer of the Tampa Bank. In April 1998, he relocated to SunTrust Bank, South Florida, as president and chief operating officer and was elected chairman and CEO in September 1999.
Kuntz has been active in all of the communities in which he has served throughout Florida. In his most recent capacity, he served on the board of directors of WPBT - South Florida Public Television, the Florida International University Foundation, Inc. and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Foundation. He was a member of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County and the corporate council of the Broward Alliance. He is also an active member of the Florida Chapter of the Young President's Organization.
He and his wife, Carol, reside in Ft. Lauderdale with their three children, Jeff, Megan and Missy and plan to relocate to the Orlando area in early 2005.
